Alvarez came to prominence during the Periodo Especial in Cuba, and offers a wry commentary on his country's relation with the rest of the world, both historically and currently. The paintings are lively and humorous, veering from primitive to surreal and back. Fine illustrated boards in near-Fine dust jacket with tiny closed tear to upper front corner.
