1 Andoe, Joe Joe Andoe: Magic Circle
Los Angeles Earl McGrath Gallery 2002 First Edition Stiff Wraps Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
16 page catalogue with seven deceptively simple paintings shown. This becomes an artist's book for me, though, because of his writing: on the title page, "One Afternoon in 1972, Me and my girlfriend were in the back seat of my car in a field off east 11th street (Route 66) in East Tulsa, when a horse looked through the window. JA". Can you resist that? Read, then, the next page, entitled "This would be the day all of my dreams come true" about his first taste of artistic success. Fine in stiff wraps as issued.

2 Buvoli, Luca Flying: Practical Training for Intermediates [2-volumes]
Portland OR Portland Institute for Contemporary Art and MIT List Visual Arts Center 2002 First Edition Hardcover Near-Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
Two volumes for a mixed media project subtitled A 33-Step Method Based on Aerodynamic Research. One volume consists of Notes written between 1997 and 2000--it is rectangular, bound in boards, and contains 33 pages of Notes and 13 pages of an Afterword, illustrated with color plates of installations and things. Oh, and there's a pop-up inside the front cover. The other volume is roughly triangular, and contains two smaller paperbound books of roughly the same shape. One is also subtitled The 33-Step Method., consisting mostly of drawings with a few in color, and the other, smaller still, is subtitled Step 27, which is actually a flip book. Both are enclosed in clear plastic sort-of envelopes. This whole thing, designed by Buvoli, makes much more sense when you see it, of course. The one thing NOT included is an 18-minute film-transferred-to-video, which one could have used. Altogether, a neat attempt by the artist to document his thinking about how man could fly without mechanical assistance. Volume one has a little wear to the corners; volume two has bumped corners and light wear to the leading edge.

4 Casebere, James James Casebere: In the Second Half of the Twentieth Century.
Buffalo NY CEPA Gallery 1982 First Edition Illustrated Wraps Fine/near-Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
16-page booklet issued in an edition of 1000, with nine illustrations, including one drawing and eight black and white photographs, one of a model of a suburban development, a "constructed photograph". In between, brief essays on school subjects like American literature, social studies, history, math, and art (which are about the artist's dreams). Casebere is a Cal Arts graduate (a few years before this gallery show) and associated with the Pictures Generation, although his work is uniquely his own. This copy withdrawn from a museum library, with stamps to title page and inside rear cover, partially removed library label inside front cover, and evidence that another label has been removed from the lower corner of the front cover. Otherwise, near-Fine with moderate wear to spine fold.

5 Cuddy, Terry Dr. Steadfast's Last Migraine: A One Act Play
Ithaca NY Bark Productions 1998 First Edition Illustrated Wraps Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
24 pages, and exactly what it says it is: a one act play, written and illustrated simply but effectively, occasionally in color. This text is, however, part of a larger video installation and performance piece, which makes it a neat piece of documentation of Cuddy's work. Fine in illustrated wraps as issued.

12 Isaacs, John Vor Der Sintflut: 27 Drawings
London Museum 52 2006 Limited/Numbered Cloth Over Boards Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
Limited edition signed and numbered (2 of either 44 or 94; the handwriting is difficult to decipher) to the colophon page. There may be 27 drawings, but I count 29 black and white plates here. Pages 65 to 94 are taken up with the text, which appears to consist of the author's statements. I would call this an artist's book and, if you've seen it, you might too. Fine in black cloth boards as issued.

16 Oates, Leah Leah Oates: Transgression
Chicago Rhino Press 1999 First Edition Cards in Leaves, Spiral Bound Fine Book
Small (8" x 5.25") book of 24 pages, offset printed and spiral bound, consisting of folded translucent leaves of UV Ultra; in each of which is a card with an identical photographic image of the ocean on one side and double photographs of a man and a woman on the other. The leaves are overprinted with quotes from a variety of political, literary, and cultural figures on the general subject of the gender wars. A bit difficult to handle, as each card must be extracted and replaced, according to the artist's instructions , and the over-printing not always easy to read. Which may be part of the point. Fine in spiral binding with card covers.
