2 Hacker, Leonard Cinematic Design
Boston MA American Photographic Publishing 1931 First Edition Hardcover Near-Fine Very Good Book
Twelve wonderfully art deco graphic illustrations and 1 color frontispiece by Constance Hacker. Leonard wasn't convinced that the movie was or ever would be an art form, but just in case, he has written this highly disciplined approach to the form, which he conceived as a combination of photography and painting. Near-fine hardcover binding (with dazzling textured silver endpapers) just slightly cocked; in Very Good dust jacket with crisp edges; unfortunately, someone may have set a wet cup or glass square in the center of the front panel (no corresponding damage to the board underneath).

3 Keaton, Diane and Marvin Heiferman (editors) Still Life
New York Callaway 1983 First Edition; Limited Hardcover Very Good+ Lacking the Dust Jacket Book
First edition of 7500 copies. A collection of sound-stage-lit photographs that look about as much like your family snaps and mine as your mother looked like Donna Reed. All in color and, after about four pages, all pretty bizarre, even though they are stills from real movies. Very Good+ hardcover binding (previous owner's bookplate inside front cover), slightly cocked; lacking the dust jacket.

4 Lees, John John Lees [2008]
New York Betty Cunningham Gallery 2008 First Edition Stiff Wraps As Issued Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
46-page catalogue for an exhibition held March 6-April 5, 2008, with an essay by William Corbett and illustrated with 20 full-page color plates. Lees qualifies as a Californian since he lived his formative years there, when he fell in love with movies. His work is intensely textured-layered and overpainted-an element that doesn't quite come through on the page's flat plane. The coloration is there, however. Fine in stiff wraps as issued.

5 Lockhart, Sharon Sharon Lockhart: Pine Flat
Charta 2006 First Edition Boards Fine Issued Without Jacket Book

The 148-page book is a companion piece to the whole project, with essays by Kathy Halbreich, Linda Norden, and Frances Stark. 77 color images mostly get the point across: ordinary people doing ordinary things in extraordinary natural settings. Fine in illustrated boards without dust jacket as issued.
