Four color plates and many more in black and white, including plans, illustrate this facsimile of Weidenmann's 1870 volume. In addition to designing the grounds of private residences, Weidenmann laid out Bushnell Park and Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut, and supervised the work of Olmsted and Vaux for the grounds of the Hartford Retreat for the Insane. Schuyler notes that Weidenmann represented the "romantic hostility toward urban life" prevalent in the late 19th century, and judging from these designs, he may be right. Fine in paper as issued.
