192-page book published to coincide with the exhibition held in Brussels at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, June 7-September 8, 1996), and definitely the most site-specific of site-specific installations. Another of Kabakov's total environments steeped in narrative, albeit a mysterious narrative that leaves the participant with more questions than answers. In addition to color and black and white photographs of the work, there are plans and sketches, and dozens of snapshots with narrative captions that tell dozens of very personal stories. This copy is near-Fine in a hardcover binding with two tiny dings to the front board, top and bottom, as if from string.

7 Kabakov, Ilya and Vladimir Tarasov Incident at the Museum, or Water Music
Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art 1993 First Edition Wraps in Sleeve Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
One of my very favorites of Kabakov's installations, this one was made out of a potential disaster: shortly before the opening of an exhibition of the paintings of Stepan Yakovlevich Koshelev at the MCA, the gallery was flooded by major leaks from above. Kabakov apparently recruited Tarasov to make music of the leaks. The documentation of the event consists of two volumes, one of the planned Koshelev exhibition with 14 tipped-in color plates, and the other of the Kabakov-Tarasov collaboration, with 5 tipped-in color plates of the flooded gallery PLUS the score of Tarasov's "water music". Text in Russian and English in both, including a conversation with the composer about his process. Both in Fine condition in stiff wraps as issued, enclosed in a card sleeve with light wear to extremities.

9 Kabakov, Ilya and Emilia The Utopian City and Other Projects
Kerber Bielefeld 2004 First Edition Hardcover Fine Issued Without Jacket Book
416 pages and nearly eight pounds of Kabakovs, one of my favorites for their creativity and spark and humor. Text in German and English, with many, many color plates and a bibliography, chronology, and exhibition list. This mammoth book actually served as the catalogue for an exhibition ("Ilya and Emilia Kabakov: The Architectural Projects") held September-November 2004 at the Kunsthalle Bielefeld, and later in 2005 at the Kunsthaus Zug and the Albion London. In three sections: The Utopian City (which includes realized and unrealized projects, including On the Roof and The Boat of My Life), Unrealized Projects, including several of the Kabakov monuments, and Monument to a Lost Civilization, which in turn is divided into Communist Ideology and Propaganda, The Bureaucratic World, Communal Life (including The Communal Kitchen, a masterpiece), The Hospital and Scientific Research, Museum and Educational Zone, The World of Memories (including The Man Who Never Threw Anything Away), and Childhood Monuments. In Fine condition in hardcover binding without dust jacket as issued with slight bump to lower corner.
