Of the Second Series, Number Nine of the Proceedings, Publication No. 183. Of particular interest is the report of the May 21, 1958, Joint Ceremonial held by the Academy and the National Institute of Arts and Letters: Mark Van Doren, then President of the Academy, gave the keynote address, a scant year after his son's disgrace. Further, this copy is SIGNED BY VAN DOREN above his name in the reprinted address. Also of interest are the prizewinners and their speeches: Robert Graves for poetry, Paul Rudolph for architecture, and Lincoln Kirstein for Distinguished Service to the Arts, among others. Also reprinted here are a talk Glenway Wescott gave in January 1958 and one Margaret Mead gave about Bali in May of that year (illustrated with four black and white plates). Altogether, a worthy artifact. Near-Fine in wraps with faint wear to corners and small faint stain to rear cover.
