172-page hardcover catalogue for an exhibition held in Stockholm February 1-March 29, 1992. With a wonderful essay by Crone and Moos ("On Uncommon Ground: The Tradition of The Other in the Art of Lee Jaffe"), more than 40 color plates of work done from 1983 to 1992, drawings for an installation, "The Harder They Come, The Harder They Fall", a chronology, and a bibliography, this is altogether a substantial work. Jaffe's hard to categorize, which is to say that he is adept at lots of different media, but somehow consistent in his position. Compare "Birth of a Nation" (1988), which consists primarily of a Jamaican shanty and a female blackamoor stuck about with little TV screens, with the boxing-themed installation, the copper plates of which are reproduced here (no soundtrack, unfortunately), for example, and you know that you're being beamed at by the same sensibility. This copy is near-Fine in boards with light edge- and corner-wear to the covers, which are slightly lifted.
