Theodore Gentilz, 1820-1906, trained in Paris, but came to the wilderness west of San Antonio in the 1840's, and spent nearly the rest of his life there and in Mexico painting and drawing the people and buildings he found, leaving us an invaluable historical record and a brilliant artistic oeuvre as well. Thoughtful informative text by Kendall, an art historian and also an artist. Oversize, 127 pages, index, many color plates. Ex-library hardcover-with-jacket copy, otherwise fine in protective mylar cover with some creasing to first few pages, scuff across page edges, usual stamping and pocket to rear endpaper.
